Silver Salt Restoration have continued investing in state-of-the-art equipment to provide the best service for clients. We have upgraded our Arri Classic to the Arri XT. A 6K/4K and 3K/2K oversampling film scanner with infrared dirt maps, sprocket-less loop builders and all of the archive gates for both 16mm and 35mm. It can run with or without register pins to accommodate film shrinkage up to 3.5% and comes with ‘soft archive mode’ which allows us to adjust the film transport system to suit the element. We also utilise Arri’s hoverscan which offers optical stabilisation of the image based on the perforations within the scanners processing chain.

Both acetate and nitrate films are scanned through the Arri XT scanner up to a native 6K as required, and down sampled to output 4K, with 16bit colour depth. The Arriscan has wet-gate capability using KODIKA fluid for handling scratches and dirt as well as “infra-red” dirt maps (which work with either gate). This allows them to automate some of the restorative process with careful management.
