How we work

We provide pin registered high resolution data scanning. We have an Arri XT, 6K/4K and 3K/2K oversampling film scanner with infrared dirt maps and sprocket-less loop builders including all the archive gates for both 16mm and 35mm. It can be run with or without register pins to accommodate film shrinkage up to 3.5% and comes with ‘soft archive mode’, which allows us to adjust the film transport system to suit the element. We also use Arri’s hoverscan, which offers optical stabilisation of the image based on the perforations within the scanners processing chain.

Our Arriscan has wet-gate capability using KODIKA fluid for handling scratches and dirt as well as “infra-red” dirt maps, which work with either gate. This allows us, with careful management, to automate some of the restorative processes. We use a wet-gate or adjust the scanner settings to best suit the asset and scan accordingly. When handled successfully, the wet scan offers fantastic results and minimises time in digital restoration. Experience is key when scanning wet.
