Silver Salt Restoration were tasked with restoring the Classic Dr Who films Dr Who and the Daleks and Daleks’ Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. Graded and Restored for the 4k HDR Dolby Vision for 2 Collector’s Edition UHD box sets. Our colourist Steve Bearman had previously graded both titles in HD Standard Definition. “I had a feeling these titles would look incredible in HDR having previously graded Flash Gordon which had similar vivid colours. The colour and detail on the original negative are preserved when making the HDR version. The ultimate goal of a Director of Photography is to create a compelling visual experience for the audience. The original vision cannot be fully displayed in Standard Dynamic range as it cannot show all the detail captured on the original camera negative. High Dynamic range allows the natural colour and detail to be realised”.
